Sepsis remains one of the most pressing global health challenges, causing 11 million deaths annually and placing a significant financial strain on healthcare systems. To tackle this issue, we are introducing a pioneering approach that integrates IDRO, a non-invasive wearable for sweat lactate monitoring, with CoNurse, a digital platform designed to enhance clinical workflows and support post-discharge recovery.

This innovative project—Integrated Sepsis Management System: Combining Wearable Technology and Digital Health Support (ISMS-DHS)—aims to revolutionise sepsis detection and management in intensive care units (ICUs) and beyond. By continuously tracking sweat lactate levels, IDRO removes the need for invasive blood tests, providing real-time insights into sepsis risk. Paired with CoNurse, which streamlines nursing procedures and supports remote patient care, this technology-driven solution ensures faster diagnosis, improved treatment outcomes, and reduced hospital readmissions.
CoNurse’s Role in Revolutionising Sepsis Care
CoNurse plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between hospital care and post-discharge recovery:
- For Nurses: CoNurse provides evidence-based, step-by-step checklists that enhance accuracy, reduce errors, and ease the onboarding process for new staff.
- For Patients: The platform enables personalised recovery plans, electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePROs), and medication reminders, ensuring seamless post-hospital care.
- For Hospitals: CoNurse’s analytics dashboard allows hospital administrators to monitor staff well-being, optimise workflows, and improve patient safety measures.
By integrating with IDRO’s real-time lactate monitoring, CoNurse enhances decision-making and enables predictive machine learning models for early sepsis detection.
Shaping the Future of Sepsis Management
This research is set to transform sepsis management by integrating wearable biosensors with digital health solutions. By combining real-time lactate monitoring with a comprehensive digital platform, IDRO and CoNurse provide a powerful, non-invasive solution for early detection, hospital care, and post-discharge recovery—helping to save lives and reduce the burden on healthcare systems.
This research is set to revolutionise sepsis management by integrating wearable biosensors with digital health solutions. We recently presented this innovative collaboration at BIOSTEC 2025 to showcase exclusive insights into how IDRO & CoNurse are shaping the future of critical care.
